Easter in Philadelphia
This weekend I’m in Philadelphia to celebrate Easter with my family. Yesterday I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In the Contemporary gallery they have many paintings by Claude Monet. Here are four Monet works on one wall alone. You could say this is one museum with extra Monets hahahahahahahaha.

Nat Geo
So a few years ago, I scored about forty years (1960s -1990s) of National Geographics back issues on Freecycle. I gave them to my uncle as a psuedo-Christmas present. So after being moved around the basement for a few years, donating gradually about half the collection to our local used bookstore (until they finally forbid us from dropping off anymore), I finally de-hoarded and gave the remainder of the collection to my friend Sara, who’s a high school history teacher. Hopefully they provide inspiration and source material for many country reports for a new generation.

Run, Marc, Run
This is one of the coolest stories I’ve researched. The man in the middle of this photo is Marc Theroux of Grafton, who’s running the Boston Marathon next month to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. If he makes his fundraising goal he’s going to shave his head. The two women on either side are current patients at Dana Farber, who came out tonight to meet Marc and share with him the stories of their battles with breast cancer. I’m glad I could bring them together. The photographer is Betty, from the Telegram and Gazette. Good luck, Marc.

If anyone’s looking for Seagull 410, he’s standing in the Westboro Wal-Mart parking lot.

“Nothing like the whistle of a train…”
Blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Sarah Levecque, accompanied by Peter Zarkadis, at the Agnes Varis Student Center at the Tufts University Cummings School of Vetinary Medicine in Grafton. This is the concert I wrote an advance piece for the Telegram. About 50 attended. Notice there’s no mic or amp… Sarah and Pete are playing 100% acoustic (very intimate).

351SamAdams.com
Tonight I drove up to Barre Mills Restaurant in Barre to interview Todd Ruggere (far left), who’s drinking a Sam Adams in each of the 351 towns and cities of Massachusetts to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Very cool project. He’s about 1/4 finished and already has some cool stories from across the state. That’s my friend Jim and Nick, the owner of the restaurant, in the photo… We’re standing under a 9′ mako shark that Nick helped to reel in on a deep sea fishing trip off Newport back in 1989.

My first attempt at making corned beef. Not bad!

Second Life
As a non-profit, the computers we have to work with aren’t exactly the latest and greatest. But about once a year, we get a grant and can replace a few (about 5, or 10% of our pool) desktops with new (well, newer) ones. After I set up those up for the users, the old ones come back to my office. Or sometimes we’ll get donations of PCs which are too old for even us to use. Since I dislike throwing things out, part of my job is to find new homes for these dinosaurs. I’ll (securely) wipe the hard drives, and if it’s a donation, add RAM where possible. Then I list the specs and post them on Craig’s List for about $15 to $40 each. These aren’t blazing fast , but they’ll still connect to the Internet and can do homework. If one of our clinicians knows a family which could use one for their kid, I’ll add a keyboard and mouse, and take the time to set up Windows XP, Microsoft Security Essentials, and Libre Office and pass them on for free. Better than sitting in a landfill!
