MST Day 6c

One last picture from our New Year’s Hike along the Mid State Trail. I thought this photo was pretty cool, the leaf is trapped between two layers of snow. It reminded me of stationary I used to own. 
I took this photo in Ashburnham on New Year’s Day, late morning. We would find out later that just about ten miles on the trail north of us, another hiker would suffer a fatal heart attack while climbing Mt. Watatec. He was 72 years old, a small business owner, an “avid outdorsman” (according to the newpaper) and was fortunately with another family member. Another hiker was nearby and helped with CPR, until EMTs and paramedics arrived. Our condolences go out to his loved ones. 
Mount Watatec is the terminus for the Mid State Trail. We’ll be climbing it on our last day of hiking.
