Big Dipper 2012
Today was another very fun and very successful Big Dipper, the annual all-you-can-eat ice cream festival organized by Children’s Friend, the non-profit agency where I work. It was about 90 degrees, little humidity, and a great day for ice cream. Thanks to all our sponsors, ice cream donors, volunteers, entertainers (including Dale LePage), John, Charlotte, Josephine, and everyone who came by. Here Jen and I pose by the facepainting booth (of which Jen is the Chief Operations Officer)…

The Big Dipper
Today at work we set up for the Big Dipper, Worcester’s annual All-You-Can Eat Ice Cream Festival to benefit Children’s Friend, a social services agency which preovides counseling services to children and adoption services to families. Here, artist John Morrow stands next to a larger-than-life ice cream cone that he designed and donated to Children’s Friend.

Field Trip
This afternoon fellow history geek Sarah and I toured the Worcester Historical Museum and the Salisbury Mansion. Places we’ve never been to, though we’ve lived here for years. I learned there was a woman from Worcester who was on the Titanic with her family when it sunk. She and her daughters escaped, but her husband and sons perished. She went on to live another five decades. She died on April 15, 1964… EXACTLY 52 years to the day she lost half her family on the Titanic.

Worcester Hydras
It was a big weekend for Worcester sports. Last night we saw the Tornadoes game; tonight Jen, Sarah and I had a cookout at John and Charlotte’s house before going to watch the Hydras, Worcester’s soccer team, who debuted this year.

Massachusetts Walking Tour
Dan Blakeslee, Mark Mandeville, Billy Mack and Raianne Richards perform at the West Boylston Bandstand during their third annual Massachusetts Walking Tour, when they hike from town to town and give free performances in the evening. What a great night for live music outdoors!!

Waiting for the sun…
Sarah and I got up before the sun on a pre-dawn hike around Moore State Park. (Not bad when sunrise was at 5:10 am!)

Congratulations Christine and Ian
This weekend Jen and I were in Newport, RI, for Christine and Ian’s wedding. It was one of those receptions that went on for hours and hours and didn’t wrap up until midnight… good music, great DJ, it was a really fun night. Best wishes to the newlyweds. (postdated)
Blue Man Group
Last night I went to see Blue Man Group at the Hanover Theater in Worcester. It was a fun show… The last time I saw them was when my college’s Res Life ran a program in ’98. One of the Blue Men came out to the lobby afterwards to pose for photos. Thanks to Michelle and Susan Weagle for the ticket.
