Libby at Camp
The Worcester Public Library Mobile Book Bus (“Libby”) came to visit our day camp today. We helped about 20 kids get their first library cards. I’ll post a photo of inside the bus next. This visit coincided with guests who read childrens books to the 6-7 year olds. It was a great day to read outside under a tree! This afternoon is disc golf lessons for the older kids, thanks to Vibram.

Dawn over Philadelphia
The last few mornings, I’ve been waking up with Jen at 4:30 am (!!!!!!) And walking with her over the South Street Bridge to CHOP, where her shift starts at 6 am. Then I spend the rest of the morning reading Metamorphoses (almost done!), planning for day camp, sending out press releases, and writing my next article for the T&G. I’ll be driving back to Worcester later tonight and camp starts tomorrow afternoon.

Genna Bean
Here’s the stern view of Paul’s new boat, the Genna Bean, a 27′ trimaran. This is a cool design because the two extra hulls just about triple the available passenger space (and the hammocks in between are much more comfortable than sitting on the fiberglass for four hours). Plus, it almost sorta kinda looks like a Klingon Bird of Prey.

Captain Paul
Last summer I posted a photo of my cousin Paul, who was taking sailing lessons and asked me to spend a day on the boat in Naragansett Bay with him so he could fulfill his practice hours. We’ll, I’m happy to say the student is now the captain and Paul purchased his own boat, a 27′ trimaran he named after his daughter, Genna Bean. Paul, Jena and I took the boat out for a spin near Bristol today. I’ll try to post a better pic of the craft tomorrow… she’s pretty sleek-looking.

WINDFALL!!
File this under “I never thought it would happen to me.” My friend Kristin and I went to Worcester’s Greek Fest a few weeks ago, and at one of the booths was a representative from the Mass. Treasury Dept. He was taking names and social addresses (he was legit – he had a polo shirt) and checking a laptop to see if anyone was owed money by the state (usually because of tax overpayment). Just for the heck of it, I gave him my info … and my name was on that list! It was like pulling the windfall card in Monopoly! Now the question is what I’m going to do with my big $5.65.

Greens from the Garden
I made a salad tonight with romaine and butter lettuce from my garden. The tomatoes are store bought… still a too early for those.
