West Hartford, CT
On Day Two of my Connecticut Adventure I went to breakfast with my friend Tammi. Then I spent too much time shopping for used books in Meridan. I met my friend Colleen for lunch and we drove to the Blue Back district in West Hartford for lunch at a kaiten sushi restaurant. I hadn’t had conveyor belt sushi since I left Japan in 2004. (Between this place and Louis’ Lunch in New Haven, it’s not fair that CT has all the cool places to eat.) After Colleen left I walked over to the West Hartford Library where I prepared the White House photos for printing (they should be ready to mail out in one week).

7th Birthday
Today I drove to Connecticut for my cousin Brady’s 7th birthday party. Thanks to Sherri and Shaun for having me over. Afterwards I went to my friends Tammi and Jeff’s house for a visit and to watch some Dr. Who. (11th Doctor)

Worcester Ice Cats
Tonight my high school friend Paul B and I went to the Worcester Ice Cats hockey game at the DCU Center. They beat the Providence Bruins 5-2. After the game was an Army Enlistment/Re-enlistment Ceremony. Congrats and good luck to these young soldiers.
Also at the game I got to shake hands with Rick Hoyt, one-half of the father-son wheelchair race team. This April he and his Dad, Dick, will be competing in their 30th Marathon together. What an inspiration.

Happy Birthday Oreo
Oreo Cookies turns 100 this month. Auntie Rosie celebrates one of her favorite snacks with a mug of milk and a smile. (By the way, that’s an ooooooold school Dunkin Donuts cup).

Boys of the Town
Celtic Music at the Merriam-Gilbert Public Library in West Brookfield. Three things to say about this: 1. I’m giving a presentation about my walk across America here in November; 2. The guys in the band are all fellow Eagle Scouts, and 3. The Merriam-Gilbert Public Library is co-named after the town benefactor and publisher of Noah Webster’s dictionary (the Merriam-Webster Dictionary…. get it?)

Jaffa and Me
This morning I drove out to the South Shore to visit Jaffa, a friend from college I hadn’t seen in many many years. We went for lunch and he took me on a tour of his workplace at the Zildjian factory, where Zildjian Cymbals are cast, finished and tested. The company has been family-owned since its founding in 1623 in Turkey. Jaffa introduced me to one of the owners, a 15th generation Zildjian. He also introduced me to one of the two IT guys and I got to see how they’re using server virtualization in a corporate setting. (He did not introduce me to Carlos.)
