Something to do with floppy disks
Today at work I copied a bunch of old 3.5 floppy disks and moved the data onto one CD-R. Before I threw out the floppies, however, I took some artistic liberty on my boss’s carpet.

Justin’s Bachelor Party
My friend Justin (third from left, in green) from college is getting married in two weeks, and today was his bachelor party. He’s a disc golf afficionado (it was he who first introduced me to the sport), so we spent the day playing courses in Topsfield, Burlington (which Justin designed in 2008), and Borderlands in Easton. We then repaired to Paul B’s palace for hot dogs, hamburgs, and beer. It was good to hang out with all these guys again.

Tin Whistle Beat Box
Every summer, Worcester holds a Mystery Band concert. What’s a Mystery Band? It’s a Mystery! Hahaha. JK… You email your name to the organizer, and she sets you up with 3-8 other musicians, all different instruments and skill levels. The idea is to work together with these strangers to come up with a 2p-30 minute set in about six weeks. This year I was put with Kristen (fiddle), Luis (percussion), and Eliot (keys/sax/tin whistle/vocals). We put together a five song set which we played in the concert tonight. For me, it was the first time playing bass in front of an audience in over 12 years. It went pretty well, Im going to miss our weekly practice with these guys.

Tomatoes!
Here is a photo of the tomatoes plant I bought earlier in the summer. We’ve had two tomatoes so far, and another four or five will be ready in the next few weeks. Next year I plan to build more hangers like the one pictured and grow three or four plants at once.

Boston at Night
I drove into Cambridge tonite to see my cousin Stan, who’s in town for a biomed conference. We had dinner at the Cambridge Brewing Company in Kendall Square. Afterwards I walked to the Charles River and took this photo of the Boston skyline.

Happy Birthday Aunt Rose
Today was good weather, and I went for a walk around the local cemetary with my Aunt Rose. If you see Aunt Rose, wish her a Happy Birthday. She turned 80 yesterday.

Jimmy Fund Walk
Today I volunteered with the Jimmy Fund Walk. The walk uses the same course as the Boston Marathon – all 26.2 miles. We had about 7000 walkers. My job was to ride in the sweep van and help pick up struggling walkers who needed a lift to the end. (This is a photo of the finish line). It was a good time, my first experience working with ham radio operators, and I will probably do it again next year.

Name that Library
One of my favorite writing places, the Worcester State University Library, underwent a facelift this summer. The result is pretty swank… sleek wood design… new, comfy chairs… big, open spaces…. even a cafe in the lobby.
Unfortunately, the redesign extended to only the first floor… the second floor is still the setting of that hit television show, That 70’s Library.

2010-2011 Members’ Council
Tonight was the first meeting of the Worcester Art Museum’s Member’s Council. The Members’ Council organizes a Wine – Art – Music event on the third Thursday of every month, and otherwise try to encourage patrons to become members of and donors to the museum. It’s a good museum, if you’re ever in Worcester you should check it out.
